The Benefits of a Detox

by

Would you believe me if I said you’re only a few days from feeling better?

Not feeling tired when you wake up or throughout the day.
Not craving and thinking about food all the time.
Not feeling achy, congested, a little depressed.

Do you find yourself feeling bloated, attacked by allergies, always tired, have joint pain, headaches, acne, eczema, digestive issues, aren’t sleeping well?

Its not all your fault! We are surrounded by so many toxins in our everyday lives, in our food, the things we touch and breathe in. It’s crazy and frankly, unfair. These will wreck our immune systems, which will make us sicker more often and lead to disease.

I give you – a detox.

We’ve all heard of detoxing. Maybe you picture a slimey drink, vinegar concoctions, being hungry, running to the bathroom every 5 minutes?

This is a myth we need to debunk. This may be just what you need to get yourself back to feeling well in more ways than one.

detox, detoxification, food as medicine

First win, you will lose some weight while detoxing. Toxins mess up our ability to burn fat so if we get rid of them, we can start our metabolism back up!

Detoxing rids the body of free radicals, which are responsible for giving us wrinkles and doing serious damage to our cells. On a topical level, your skin, hair, and nail health will improve. Second win.

Detoxing helps get rid of cravings. It breaks the addiction we have to sugar, salty, processed foods. You won’t find yourself longingly gazing at the array of baked goods at the coffee shop –can you believe that??

Detoxing helps eliminate food sensitivities. This is the most important for me. We may not be aware that a certain food is causing us to have such adverse reactions (bloating, weight gain, tired, inflamed) but by taking out some of the foods that could potentially be causing harm to you, we’ll be able to see if they’re the culprit.

Detox re-balances hormones. Have you ever functioned at an optimal level? Maybe you remember feeling a certain way or able to do certain things “when you were younger”. Maybe you don’t get excited about certain hormone-related things like you used to. A detox works to restore balance to the body’s systems so they do what they were made to do. Helping your hormones turn on and off properly is essential.

Detoxing on an emotional level– also my favorite part. This is a time for you to focus on yourself and your body. You’re getting to the root of your choices and what motivates you. What comes along with the detox will be better sleep, a clear mind, and a better understanding of yourself. Take this time to practice more ways of self love. Start a new book, write, meditate, experiment in the kitchen, go to Church, spend some time in a sauna, sleep more.

What will you have to do?

EAT. You’re going to be eating well and often.

We’re going to focus on the four R’s: Remove, Replace, Reinoculate, and Repair.

To put it simply: no gluten, dairy, added sugar. Eating vegetables, fruit, high quality protein, pre/probiotics, healthy fats. Aim for 21 days.
