Yes! My private practice is designed to see patients virtually (computer/telephone) through a HIPPA-compliant platform at the comfort of your own home-if you please! This is known as telehealth and is being adapted more and more by health professionals and accepted greatly by patients due to the lack of travel time and flexibility of scheduling.
At first, I’ll admit it was difficult to hone in on ONE thing to specialize in. When I started to lay out the things I loved paired with treatment plans that actually worked, I realized they were all stemming from one place- the gut! I am a self-proclaimed gut-loving RD and specialize in healing a person from the inside out by focusing on the gut. This relates to, but is not limited to, diseases such as Celiac, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, SIBO, Crohn’s, leaky gut, Ulcerative Colitis, acid reflux, and even some skin conditions. Side effects of working together can include, but are not limited to, reduced inflammation, mental clarity/energy, physical energy, reduction in joint pain, fat loss, hormone balance.
Functional Medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual. Instead of treating symptoms, we will work together to address the core of the issue. One day, it will no longer be called functional medicine, but rather simply referred to as medicine. Together, we will focus on identifying health as a positive vitality-not merely the absence of disease. What does this mean for you? You get to have a voice. You receive more time with the health professional as well as a personalized treatment plan. Unlike conventional medicine, this is not a one-way relationship. You are involved. As the provider, I literally can’t do this without you! To learn more, read on here.

I am a Licensed, Registered Dietitian, a title recognized as the most trusted source to provide information regarding what types of foods you should be eating per the International Food Information Council. With a background in clinical and community nutrition, biochemistry, medical nutrition therapy, and functional medicine, I am able to provide specific, individualized treatment plans on a variety of diseases. In order to obtain the RD, LDN credentials, I graduated from the University of Rhode Island’s competitive dietetic program, completed a vigorous 1400-hour internship in Hickory, North Carolina and passed the national board exam. I am a forever-student of functional medicine, nutrition, and wellness. In addition to my current enrollment in the ADAPT Academy for Functional Medicine, I must maintain 75 credits of continued education every 5 years related to nutrition and dietetics. To put it simply, I am constantly sharpening my tools and ensuring I provide the most up-to-date information. This is my passion. My business, HealThy Self Nutrition, Inc. is a registered corporation in Rhode Island, in good standing since 2017.
Of course you want an expert in your particular disease. This is a valid question. However, I work with the functional medicine model. Your diagnosis is a label of the symptoms you may be experiencing. The diagnosis gives me no information about YOU- the person behind the label. Because I see people as more than a protocol, I need to learn about how we got to this place. This requires me to start from scratch with each diagnosis because I do not believe there is a one size fits all approach to health. I do not treat diseases, I treat the person with the disease. Chances are, I am familiar with your diagnosis but I am unfamiliar with your lifestyle, preferences, feelings, and goals. That is what I treat.
6-12 weeks: You start to see changes in a positive direction. You start to look and feel better. Positive changes are usually reflected in labwork. 6 months: I aim for 50% at 6 months. 12 Months: Achieve your goal, depending on what the goal was. Regain control of your life. 2 years. Aiming for you to be healthy by this point, and hit ‘maintenance’. Enjoy your days.
There are multiple ways in which we can work together as seen in my services. Whether you are a patient of mine, participate in group classes, or just want to talk briefly in an Ask Amanda session. That being said, this is not an inexpensive undertaking. As well as my fees, you will need to buy food, and probably pay out of pocket for tests and supplements as well, based on our treatment plan. I do try to use your primary care physician as much as possible, but a large number of labs and tests are unattainable/uncovered. Of course, we can discuss how to stretch your dollar and how to prioritize spending. I will also have the expectation that you will prioritize your health in your budget upon making the commitment to working together and feeling better.
No. As of now, insurance does not cover virtual work, nor does insurance cover many other services that are beneficial for people’s health on a pro-active basis.
This is probable, though all cases are different.
